Goodbye to the Great Paul Newman

This is one of the saddest news in Hollywood. Actor Paul Newman died on September 26 at age 83, after a bout with cancer. He is best known for his unforgettable blue eyes and extreme talent as proven by classic films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Color of Money. I personally have seen how magnetic he is onscreen even with later films like Message in a Bottle and The Road to Perdition. Even his voice as Doc Hudson gave that old race car quite an impressionable character if I may say so.

Some people may not know it, but Paul Newman was not only an actor. He was a director, race car driver, writer and philanthropist. What Impresses me about him most of all though, is how he has been married to his wife Joanne Woodward for the past 50 years, in an industry that's marked by infidelity and controversy. He is proof that there are still good men who take the road less travelled.

You'll definitely be missed Mr. Newman. Godspeed. Read more here. Photos by timeinc.net, simonsays.com and bbc.co.uk.

Bernie Mac is Gone.

I was checking out my Facebook when someone said "I am deeply saddened by the sudden death of one of the greatest comedians of all time. Bernie Mac died of pneumonia today."

What???! I was so shocked. I just watched re-runs of Oceans 11 a few weeks ago. And how strange to hear that he died of pneumonia. Something too simple, not a real threat to someone's life. But it was true as a barrage of announcements on the internet proved. One of the biggest names is American comedy is gone.

I remember him best from Charlie's Angels, taking over Bill Murray for part 2 and 3, and of course Ocean's 11. It was only when I read through some articles about him that I saw what a tough history he had. Born to a single mom who died when he was 16, taking on manual jobs as a driver and janitor. But even when he was young he knew that he wanted to be a comedian, even if it meant starting off by telling jokes for tips at the subway, and places where no one else wanted to do stand up comedy infront of street and motorcycle gangs, or gay balls. But he did it, and I doubt if he'll be easily forgotten long after his last joke's been played.

Finally seeing The Dark Knight...

Awesome. That's how I would describe Heath Ledger. Hot as Christian Bale is, the hero was definitely upstaged by the villain. Note that I think Christian is a great actor as anyone who watched "American Psycho" can attest to, but this was Heath's moment to shine, at least for the last time.
There was no trace of the Heath Ledger people knew behind that disturbing maniac's painted face. He made the line "Why so serious?" sound like the scariest words you'd hear right before the most violent act imaginable. It was really his best performance ever.
Some say that he internalized his evil character too much, which ended his life too soon. Maybe there's some truth to that, who knows? At any rate, he knew how to leave a mark in an industry where too many famous names come and go. Heath Ledger will always be one that film fanatics, whether it's from Batman or Brokeback Mountain, will hopefully never forget.

Goodbye Heath Ledger

It shocked everyone last Tuesday when news broke out...28-year old star Heath Ledger had died. Though the cause is still unconfirmed, it seemed that it was an overdose of sleeping pills that killed him.

I remember him even way back in a Knight's Tale. True it was a cheesy movie, but hey, he was just riveting on screen. Heath was undoubtedly one of the best looking actors in his generation, but what could be said is that he was also one of the most talented. I mean, look at how he pulled off being a gay cowboy in Brokeback mountain, which earned him an Oscar nomination.

It was only when he died that I found out that he also played the Joker in the upcoming Batman film. I saw the trailer of the disturbing Joker (not like Jack Nicholson's version), so I was just so surprised at his transformation for that role. Too bad he didn't live to see this project through, but it's a big way to end his "legacy".

It's strange how the masseuse who found Heath at the apartment called Mary Kate Olsen four times, before calling 911. Anyway, no foul play was suspected, so let's wait and see the official report in the coming days.

Right now, his family is quietly planning his funeral, away from the media. They just released a death notice in a newspaper from Perth, his hometown in Australia, saying, "We have observed you so determined, quietly traveling in your self-styled path in life, nothing would get in your way, no mountain too tall, no rive too wide...our hearts are broken." Brad Renfro's troubled end

Brad Renfro, former child star who was linked to Darryl Hannah, died at the young age of 25.
Despite a promising future after starring in "The Client", his misadventures involving drugs and alcohol marred his later years.

I think the Hollywood's youth is getting really messed up, but this is one of the saddest stories.

The Spice Girls are back!

After babies, husbands, and unsuccessful solo careers, Posh, Scary, Sporty, baby & Ginger are kicking off their World Tour concert at Vancouver! Wow, talk about a 90's revival.

I was one of those Spice girls fanatics when they broke into the entertainment scene with "Wannabe", but honestly, the excitement of their reunion hasn't hit me yet. I guess seeing them perform together again will get me all hyped about it.
